Two Engine Options for the 2020 Hyundai Sonata
Buyers of the 2020 Sonata have a choice of two engines. The all-new Smartstream 2.5-liter GDI 4-cylinder engine doles out 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. This is an increase of 6-hp and 3 lb-ft of torque over the 2.4-liter base engine in the 2019 Sonata. The Sonata also offers a turbocharged engine, with the Smartstream 1.6-liter Turbo-GDI 4-cylinder engine, which delivers 180 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque.
Sonata models with the 2.5L engine get an estimated fuel economy of up to 28 city/38 hwy mpg. With the 1.6L Turbo engine, the Sonata gets an estimated fuel economy of 27 city/36 hwy mpg. For even higher efficiency, Hyundai offers a hybrid version of the Sonata, with an estimated fuel economy of up to 50 city/54 hwy mpg.
